Luxury fishing trip in Canada

It was early evening on British Columbia’s central coast, far away from the daily grind and everyday commitments. A small fishing boat bobbed in the waters of a gentle ocean swell. Suddenly the quiet was broken by the high-pitched scream of a line playing out.

The fish were biting, and it was time for the “urban guys” to help reel in the biggest wild salmon they had ever seen, let alone caught.

Hours earlier, the adventure began with a short flight from Vancouver to Bella Bella (Waglisla), a small Native village on British Columbia’s central coast. En route, the deep fjords, island archipelagos and steep terrain of the coastal landscape had some of the awe-struck passengers hauling out their video cameras.

Executing memorable corporate retreats and outings is one of Exposure Travel’s specialties. To reward top customers of Colliers International, we planned an extreme Canadian fishing trip to “secret spots” on the Central Coast, guided by some of the most experienced fishing guides in British Columbia.

At Exposure Travel, luxury is all about providing access to such out-of-the-way places. But we don’t overlook the amenities. A thrilling seaplane ride brought this exclusive group to a hidden anchorage and their accommodation in a floating fishing resort, a private expedition yacht.

Passengers stayed in private staterooms gleaming with mahogany and brass. In the galley, a private chef prepared fresh west coast cuisine paired with fine BC wines.

Each day featured guided fishing for salmon and halibut from smaller vessels. The group learned the importance of teamwork in an extreme environment, and together they struggled to land monster Chinook salmon in waters where fish up to 60 pounds are not uncommon. Plenty of “fish tales” to take back home!

Here on the wild west coast, the group had some competition for the fish. At each fishing spot, they witnessed wildlife such as bald eagles, wolves, grizzlies and orca whales, which also fish for the plentiful salmon on a daily basis.

Balancing wilderness travel and luxury entertainment, evenings brought gourmet food and wine, poker tournaments, and whiskey and cigar tasting. Laughter echoed into the evening hours, mindful of the early fishing trip scheduled for the following morning.

Colliers International wanted to reward their top customers with an adventurous, entertaining Canadian fishing trip that was truly memorable and seamless in delivery. Exposure delivered a customized, all-inclusive getaway that allowed Colliers to maximize face time with their customers, to build and cement relationships, and to stand shoulders above the competition.

Top execs escape from their BlackBerrys

“To say that an Exposure fishing expedition was the best trip one could ask for, would be an understatement. Battling monster Chinook salmon with humpback and killer whales, porpoises and bald eagles as your audience was absolutely exhilarating. If my BlackBerry worked where we were—we would never have left. I look forward to planning my next Exposure trip.”
